Vice President Kamala Harris Boosts National Profile with Attack on Florida Governor
Vice President Kamala Harris reportedly wanted to enhance her national profile ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Taking inspiration from California Governor Gavin Newsom, she decided to target Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
CNN reported that Harris’ team swiftly organized a last-minute political event in Jacksonville, Florida upon learning about the state’s new African American history curriculum.
Harris’ team has been amazed by the fact that her criticism of the curriculum has become a constant source of attack from her opponents.
The report follows the scathing remarks made by Dr. William Allen, former chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and member of Florida’s African American History Standards Workgroup, who condemned Harris last week for spreading falsehoods about the curriculum based on a single sentence from the 216-page outline.
Harris’ team launched this attack because they have often felt sidelined and unsupported by many within the president’s inner circle, according to the report.
“Harris has been quietly observing how other Democrats, including her friend and occasional rival California Gov. Gavin Newsom, have gained national attention by aggressively confronting Republicans,” the report stated. ”Aides say she has also been following the news about the Republican presidential race and expressing her desire to be seen as a fighter against extremism.”
The report also mentioned that “Biden aides enthusiastically embraced the response and the subsequent events it triggered,” which included counterattacks by Republican presidential candidate Tim Scott and three black U.S. lawmakers (all of whom have endorsed Trump) against DeSantis. DeSantis, in turn, responded to these attacks.
California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom has repeatedly targeted DeSantis, even calling for investigations into the Florida governor’s alleged transportation of illegal aliens to blue states and cities.
In response to Newsom’s call for a federal investigation, DeSantis humorously remarked that the excessive amount of hair gel used by Newsom was “interfering with his brain function.”
