Senators Investigate Biden Admin Over China Collaboration

Senators Probing Biden Admin After⁤ Discovery of Collaboration with ‌China-Controlled Entity

A group of U.S. senators is raising concerns about the U.S.⁤ Department of Agriculture ⁤(USDA) working with a Chinese biotech‍ firm, warning ‌that it‌ gives‌ China an unfair advantage and poses a risk to U.S.‍ security.

The Chinese biotech firm in‍ question, BGI, has already ‍been⁣ blacklisted by the Department of Defense and⁢ the Commerce Department for its criminal business practices and its ties to the Chinese military. Despite this, the⁤ USDA continues to collaborate with BGI on the Earth BioGenome ⁤Project, an ambitious initiative to map the genomes of over 1.5 million species.

BGI has received $1 million in U.S. tax dollars⁢ for its involvement‍ in the project and holds leadership ‌positions on four of its‍ subcommittees, including the⁤ crucial IT and Informatics subcommittee. This raises concerns about the company’s control over the project’s key systems.

The ‌senators, including Roger ⁤Marshall of Kansas, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Marco Rubio of Florida, and Susan Collins ⁢of Maine,‍ have sent a letter to the⁤ USDA, questioning whether adequate measures have been taken to protect important data from ⁣being⁢ weaponized by China.

“Our government must take extreme caution to ‌prevent sponsoring research ‍that gives ‍any sensitive materials and intellectual property to the Chinese Communist Party,” Senator Marshall emphasized.

The senators also ⁣highlighted the ‌potential ‌dangers of ‌China ⁢using genetic information to develop ⁣bio-weapons, posing a threat not only ⁤to the‍ U.S.⁢ but to all life on earth. ⁢They warned ‍that China ⁣is “weaponizing biotech in preparation for strategic advantage in a new domain of biological warfare.”

China’s track record of intellectual espionage ‍and strict data dissemination laws further ⁢raise concerns about the security⁢ of the USDA’s genome project. The senators pointed out that China has previously blocked access to crucial data during the investigation into the ⁢origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The senators are seeking answers regarding the security measures in place to protect the collected‍ data and whether‌ China ⁤is being barred from accessing information on dangerous pathogens that could be used as‍ bioweapons.

Ultimately, the senators argue that the U.S. ‌government should not‌ collaborate with any Chinese firm or government entity on risky research projects, as no Chinese ⁤company can‌ be considered⁣ independent from the Chinese Communist Party and its military. Such collaborations only serve ⁤to strengthen the belligerence of the Chinese war⁣ machine.
