A Close Friend of the Biden Family and the Hunter Biden Probe
A close friend of the Biden family, who was even referred to as “brother” by Hunter Biden on occasion, appears to have been working in the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s office when the investigation into the president’s embattled son began.
According to a new report published Tuesday by The Washington Examiner, Alexander Mackler was employed by the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s office from August 2016 to May 2019. IRS whistleblower Joseph Ziegler claims that the investigation into Hunter Biden’s financial dealings started before January 2019.
Ties to the Bidens Run Deep
Mackler’s ties to the Bidens run deep. He served as the Delaware senator’s press secretary during President Joe Biden’s time in the U.S. Senate. He also managed the late Beau Biden’s campaign for Delaware Attorney General. Later, he became deputy legal counsel to Vice President Joe Biden and was part of the Biden-Harris transition team in 2020.
In addition, Mackler had regular correspondence with Hunter Biden and other business associates. Several emails to and from Mackler were discovered on Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop. One email, sent on August 22, 2016, informed Hunter Biden and business partner Eric Schwerin about the email retention policy at the U.S. Attorney’s office. Schwerin’s response suggested that it would be their last communication.
Another email from Mackler, sent on August 31, 2016, hinted that the Biden family could continue to profit from Joe Biden’s political service even after he left office. The email included an article comparing the charitable foundations of former Secretaries of State Colin Powell and Hillary Clinton.

The article suggested that due to allegations of corruption, people were skeptical of the Clintons’ charitable efforts. However, Mackler argued that there was a different point to be made.
“When someone leaves public life and they or their spouse no longer hold prominent government positions (Powell, Blair, Albright), they can do almost whatever they want and take money from almost anyone they can personally stomach and who passes their personal barometer. That’s the point (and the good news for us),” he wrote.
