White House accuses Abbott of acting in bad faith on southern border.
White House press secretary criticizes Gov. Abbott’s actions at the southern border
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had harsh words for Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R-TX) latest action at the southern border after he refused to remove floating barriers placed in the Rio Grande aimed at stopping illegal border crossings.
Abbott sent President Joe Biden a letter Monday vowing that Texas ”will see you in court” over the Justice Department’s attempts to curb the governor’s latest border orders.
Biden campaign could count on these surrogates to excite voters about reelection
“If you truly care about human life, you must begin enforcing federal immigration laws,” he wrote. “By doing so, you can help me stop migrants from wagering their lives in the waters of the Rio Grande River. You can also help me save Texans, and indeed all Americans, from deadly drugs like fentanyl, cartel violence, and the horrors of human trafficking. To end the risk that migrants will be harmed crossing the border illegally, you must fully enforce the laws of the United States that prohibit illegal immigration between ports of entry.”
Jean-Pierre, pressed on Abbott’s defiance during Monday’s White House press briefing, defended the president’s own immigration policies, claiming they have resulted in the lowest number of illegal border crossings in two years and that Abbott’s directives are “making this more difficult” on Border Patrol.

“He’s not moving forward in good faith. He’s just not. There’s no good faith effort here in what Gov. Abbott is doing, and the only person the one person that is sowing chaos is Gov. Abbott. That’s what he continues to do, political stunts in an inhumane way. He’s actively undermining our border enforcement plan,” she continued. “He’s literally operating in bad faith. That’s what this governor is doing while we’re trying to fix and deal with an issue, a broken system and immigration system that has broken for decades, and he’s undermining it.”
