Cori Bush funds spouse’s security business despite advocating police defunding.
The Gravy Train Keeps Flowing for Congresswoman Cori ‘Defund The Police’ Bush’s Bodyguard Hubby
A new report indicates that Congresswoman Cori ‘Defund The Police’ Bush’s (D-MO) husband, Courtney Merrits, has been receiving thousands of dollars for private security and “wage expenses” from Bush’s campaign. However, it seems that he doesn’t have the proper authorization for such services in either St. Louis or Washington, D.C.
Fox News reported on Sunday that Bush’s campaign has paid Merrits $30,000 so far in 2023, in addition to the $60,000 sent in 2022. The exact nature of his work remains unclear.
Bush’s team has not provided any answers regarding the type of protection Merrits is providing, as he is not listed in D.C.’s official security specialists database and does not have a license in Bush’s home district in Missouri.
In 2023, Bush has also paid $62,000 to a group of St. Louis-based PEACE Security officers. It is worth noting that PEACE is comprised of individuals with law enforcement or military experience, despite Bush’s infamous denigration of the police as racists. Additionally, she has paid another individual over $140,000 for “security” over the past year and a half.
Despite the rising crime and lawlessness in cities across the country due to the “Defund the Police” movements, Bush remains one of the few members of Congress, let alone the Democratic Party, who still supports this policy.
Bush is also a strong advocate for heavy gun control. However, when questioned about her own security services spending in 2021, she emphasized the need for firearms to protect herself.
When she’s not advocating for disarming the average American, Bush is demanding reparations. On July 4, she tweeted, “The Declaration of Independence was written by enslavers and didn’t recognize Black people as human. Today is a great day to demand Reparations Now.”
As readers can tell, Bush is quite the charmer, with convictions as strong as her persuasive rhetoric. Or perhaps that’s just what her husband tells her in exchange for tens of thousands of dollars from campaign funds.
