Ex-BLM activist disputes Whoopi Goldberg’s knowledge.
A Former Black Lives Matter Activist Criticizes Whoopi Goldberg’s Comparison
A former Black Lives Matter activist, Xaviaer DuRousseau, strongly disagrees with The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg’s comparison between Jason Aldean’s song and music video, “Try That In A Small Town,” and the former BLM riots. DuRousseau firmly denounces any suggestion that there are similarities between the destructive riots and the message conveyed in Aldean’s song.
BLM Protests: A Destructive Outcome
DuRousseau emphasizes that the BLM protests did not benefit any city, community, or individual, except for the looters themselves. These protests resulted in the destruction of numerous communities and livelihoods, leaving a trail of devastation. DuRousseau questions why society should embrace such destructive actions.
Lawrence Jone Cross Country interviewed DuRousseau, where he expressed his disagreement with Goldberg’s viewpoint. The View criticized Aldean’s song, disapproving of its message. However, co-host Joy Behar defended Aldean’s right to create the music video and spoke against censoring him. Behar suggested that Aldean consider the support big cities provide to small towns.
Goldberg’s Perspective: Big Cities Taking Care of Each Other
Goldberg argues that big city riots are comparable to small towns “taking care of each other.” She believes that Aldean’s song is about people looking out for one another, and it is interesting that this aspect did not occur to Aldean or the songwriters. Goldberg asserts that people in small towns and big towns alike take care of each other.
DuRousseau, who was previously a BLM activist, recalls his awakening from the lies propagated during that time. He questions why the majority of the individuals involved in the looting were not from the local communities and why they targeted even black-owned businesses. These questions were often ignored, as people preferred to turn a blind eye to the criminal activities.
The debate surrounding Aldean’s song intensified when CMT, a country music video network, removed “Try That In A Small Town” from its rotation. However, several conservatives, including Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, and Donald Trump Jr., have expressed their support for Aldean.
Since then, the song has skyrocketed to the top of the iTunes Top 100 in the United States. It has also secured a spot in the Top 10 on Amazon’s “Hot New Releases” list and reached No. 2 on YouTube’s trending music videos.
