Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley vows to overhaul federal law enforcement agencies
In a bold and decisive statement, Nikki Haley, former governor of South Carolina and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, declared her intention to revamp federal law enforcement agencies if elected to the White House. Speaking at The Family Leadership Summit in Iowa alongside Tucker Carlson, Haley emphasized the need to remove problematic officials who politicize and weaponize these agencies.
A Vision for Change
During the summit, Carlson engaged with several candidates, including Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, and former Vice President Mike Pence. However, it was Haley’s turn that caught everyone’s attention.
While foreign policy matters were not the focus of their conversation, Carlson did inquire about Haley’s stance on federal agencies involved in shaping public opinion about the previous election. In response, Haley shared her experience as governor, where she took immediate action to replace the heads of every agency upon assuming office.
Controlling What You Can Control
“It’s the first thing I did when I came to office, it’s the first thing a president should do,” Haley asserted. “You control what you can control. You start with your agencies.”
She explained that her approach involved appointing individuals who possessed expertise in their respective sectors, regardless of whether they had voted for her. Whether it was veterans affairs or tourism, Haley ensured that the heads of these agencies understood the challenges and needs of the people they served.
A Comprehensive Overhaul
But Haley’s efforts didn’t stop at the top. She also implemented teams within the agencies to address issues and remove “problem children.” In some cases, she had to make significant changes, even gutting certain agencies entirely.
“The American people don’t trust our intelligence agencies. They don’t trust our Department of Justice,” Haley candidly stated. “So you can’t just replace the person at the top. You’ve got to go through and really look at gutting those agencies and getting out a lot of that senior management and things that happen.”
