Last-minute theme song for Sound of Freedom: ‘Battle songs through every war march’

Music Producer Writes Theme Song for Powerful Film

Music producer and songwriter Fernando Garibay was deeply moved by the powerful message of Sound of Freedom, a film that sheds light on the issue of sex slavery horrors.”>child sex slavery. In fact, he was so inspired that he wrote a theme song for the film just days before its theatrical release.

“I was shocked first at that someone is actually creating content to create awareness about what’s happening to protect children, and I was moved by that,” Garibay told the Washington Examiner. “And then I asked, ‘So, what’s the music like?’ They were like, ‘Well, we don’t have a theme song.’”

A Battle Song for a Worthy Cause

Sound of Freedom tells the true story of Tim Ballard, a former federal agent who risked everything to rescue children from the horrors of sex slavery in Colombia. Garibay, recognizing the power of music to inspire change, felt compelled to create a battle song for the film.

“How are movements created? Through every march of war, there has been a battle song. I wanted to create a battle song,” Garibay explained. “The music is the ultimate buffer to allow the transition to happen. That was the responsibility I felt we had.”

The theme song, also titled Sound of Freedom, not only features in a music video for the film but also plays during the film’s credits.

Garibay believes in the transformative power of music, stating, “The power of music goes beyond — it surpasses our linguistic abilities, and that’s what’s powerful. When you use and understand this, and use it as an instrument for change — that’s when the real magic happens because you are able to inspire people toward action. You’re able to inspire people toward a cause. You’re able to inspire people to inspire themselves.”

The film boasts an impressive cast, including Jim Caviezel from The Passion of the Christ, Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino from Mighty Aphrodite, and Bill Camp from 12 Years a Slave. It was produced by Eduardo Verástegui and written and directed by Alejandro Monteverde.

Sound of Freedom made a strong debut in theaters on July 4, claiming the No. 1 spot at the box office for the holiday. It is projected to finish the opening weekend at the No. 3 spot.
