Casey DeSantis, the wife of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), made a powerful statement as she launched her national Mamas for DeSantis organization in Iowa on Thursday. With a focus on protecting the innocence of children, this political priority aims to support her husband’s 2024 presidential campaign.

During her first solo appearance in this presidential election cycle, DeSantis joined forces with Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA) to shed light on the group’s origins. It all began with the COVID-19 policies in schools, but quickly expanded to address changes in curriculum and library materials. DeSantis passionately expressed, “It’s one thing when your policies come out after us — the mamas. It’s another thing when they come after our children. And that’s when the claws come out.”

DeSantis shared her personal motivations, which were deeply rooted in her battle with breast cancer. Having completed her last chemotherapy treatment in January of last year, she emphasized the importance of seizing the opportunities life presents. Refusing to be defined by negative headlines, DeSantis stated, “I care about protecting the innocence of my children and your children.”
