Transgender candidate amasses $414K in 5 days for congressional campaign.

Delaware Democratic state Sen. Sarah McBride Raises $414,000 in Campaign Donations

Exciting news! Delaware Democratic state Sen. Sarah McBride has announced that she has already collected an impressive $414,000 in campaign donations. This incredible amount was raised in just a few days since McBride launched her campaign for Delaware’s sole House seat on June 25, right before the end of the quarter on June 30.

“Thanks to your support, we’re already building a grassroots campaign that’s breaking records,” McBride tweeted. “In just the first five days of this campaign, we raised more than $414,000, including the generous support of almost 550 Delaware donors from every corner of this state.”

McBride, a transgender woman who identifies as a biological man, has been serving as a state senator since 2020. During her previous campaigns, she raised $1,800 in 2020 and $1,375 in 2022, according to Open Secrets. Notable donors in the past have included JPMorgan Chase, Deloitte, and the Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBT civil rights advocacy group in the country, where McBride also served as a spokesperson.

Currently, McBride is facing one other Democratic candidate, Alexander Geise, in the race for Delaware’s House seat. The district is expected to lean Democratic, making this an exciting competition. The winner will succeed Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), who has decided not to run for reelection but is instead running for Sen. Tom Carper’s (D-DE) seat. Rochester managed to raise over $2.8 million for her successful fourth consecutive term in 2022.
