Youngkin eyes 2024 goal amidst swirling rumors.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin Hints at Possible Presidential Run in 2024
Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) has sparked speculation about a potential run for president in 2024, adding excitement to the already buzzing GOP race. In a recent interview on Fox News, Youngkin expressed his commitment to being an exceptional governor for Virginia while also hinting at his future political ambitions.
“The first thing I’m going to do this year is first be a great governor, the best I can possibly be, and I think we are doing a really good job in Virginia,” Youngkin said. “But on top of that, we’re going to hold our House, we’re going to flip our Senate. We’re going to continue the great work that we’ve been doing.”
Reigniting Speculation
This statement comes as a surprise to many, as Youngkin had previously stated that he would not consider running for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. However, his recent campaign-style video on social media has reignited speculation about his future plans.
Youngkin is not alone in keeping his options open. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) also refused to confirm or deny his potential presidential run before officially launching his campaign. Both Youngkin and DeSantis seem to be focused on their current roles as governors, but their actions and statements have left room for speculation.
A Rising Star in Virginia
Youngkin’s impact on the Virginia GOP cannot be ignored. In the 2023 primary elections, all 10 of the Republican candidates he endorsed emerged victorious, solidifying his influence within the party. This success has paved the way for Youngkin to pursue his goal of gaining total control of the state legislature in the upcoming election.
Despite not actively campaigning, Youngkin has caught the attention of national polls. A survey conducted in March showed him leading President Biden by 16 points among registered voters. Additionally, a Roanoke College Poll revealed that 42% of Republicans believe Youngkin should run for president, while 28% of Democrats also see him as a potential contender.
While Youngkin has not officially declared his candidacy, these numbers indicate that he is a formidable force in the political landscape and should not be underestimated.
Only time will tell if Gov. Glenn Youngkin will take the leap and enter the 2024 presidential race. Until then, the nation will be watching closely to see what the future holds for this rising star in the Republican Party.
