Senator Klobuchar laughs when questioned about Hunter Biden’s presence at a gathering with Merrick Garland.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar on Hunter Biden’s State Dinner Attendance
During a recent interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) was asked about the appropriateness of Hunter Biden attending a state dinner where Attorney General Merrick Garland was also present, just days after Hunter Biden was charged with tax crimes. Klobuchar chuckled before responding.
Last week, it was revealed that Hunter Biden will plead guilty to failing to pay approximately $100,000 in taxes for 2017 and a similar amount for the following year. These tax charges are considered misdemeanors.
Additionally, the 53-year-old will enter a diversion program for admitting to the illegal purchase of a firearm in 2018. Completion of the program could result in the removal of the gun charge from his record.
When asked about Hunter Biden’s presence at the state dinner, Klobuchar defended the decision, emphasizing that it was made by an independent prosecutor with ten years of experience, who happened to be a Trump-appointed U.S. attorney. She highlighted that the prosecutor carefully examined the facts and evidence before reaching a decision.
Klobuchar acknowledged the perception issue surrounding Hunter Biden’s attendance at the event with Garland but stressed that the reality is focused on important matters such as access to healthcare and affordable medication like insulin, which President Biden has been addressing.
