Singer Nicki Minaj’s Neighbors Upset Over Husband’s Sex Offender Status

In the luxurious Hidden Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles County, singer Nicki Minaj’s presence is causing quite a stir among her neighbors. The source of their concern? Minaj’s husband, Kevin Petty, who is a convicted sex offender.

Minaj, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, resides in a stunning $19.5 million estate in Hidden Hills. However, when Petty registered his new address with the Megan’s Law website, neighbors took notice and started a petition titled “SAY NO TO SEX OFFENDERS IN HIDDEN HILLS,” according to TMZ.

The petition, initiated by resident Beverly Bardan, gained momentum quickly and has already garnered over 100 signatures in the third week of June. As of June 23, it has reached 912 signatures, with a goal of 1,000.

Concerns About Safety and Property Values

“The Petty couple moving in would lead to appraisal value of our homes to go DOWN due to safety concerns. It would lead to children and women being a target,” the change.org petition states. “DO NOT allow this dangerous sex offender to live near you, SHOW that you are against sex offenders in our Hidden Hills neighborhood!”

The backlash stems from an alleged incident involving Petty and Jennifer Hough. Hough, who was 16 at the time, claimed that Petty, then 15, forcibly assaulted and raped her at knifepoint. Hough immediately reported the crime to her adoptive mother after returning home from school.

Petty denied the allegations, asserting that he and Hough were dating at the time. However, he was later convicted of attempted rape in the first degree, assault in the second degree, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, and criminal possession of a weapon. After serving nearly four years in prison, he was released in January 1999.

Minaj faced criticism from fans who questioned her decision to be in a relationship with a convicted sex offender. In response, she defended Petty, stating, “He was 15, she was 16… in a relationship. But go awf, Internet,” on social media in 2018.

Hidden Hills, an exclusive gated community, is a popular residence for celebrities. Other notable residents include Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Kris Jenner, and Will Smith, as reported by TMZ.
