Muskville: Elon Musk planning to build his own town in Texas

Musk recently purchased thousands of acres of farmland near the state capital, which architects are drawing up plans to build his new community on, according to the Wall Street Journal. The town is adjacent to facilities owned by SpaceX and Boring, Musk’s tunnel-building operation, currently under construction. Construction on the town has already begun, with modular homes, a pool, an outdoor sports area, and a gym already completed.

The town is set to be named Snailbrook, after Boring’s mascot.

Musk and other top executives are reportedly hoping that owning the area will allow them and other employees to live in houses while paying below-market rates.

Other senior executives have even more ambitious plans for Snailbrook, particularly Boring President Steve Davis, who envisions building an entire city, the outlet reported. He even floated the idea of having employees vote for a mayor.

Snailbrook will be located close to Tesla’s newly opened giant manufacturing facility, known as Giga Texas, which occupies roughly 10 million square feet.

Construction on the town has progressed rapidly; side-by-side pictures of the area in June 2021 compared to November 2022 show a massive change in development over the short time period.
