Cuccinelli has always expressed blunt views regarding immigration, once paraphrasing the words on the Statue of Liberty by saying, “Give me your tired and your poor who can stand on their own two feet and who will not become a public charge.”
Montgomery County Federation of Republican Women in Maryland published a 2019 statement criticizing Montgomery County Council over their attitude to the series of rapes in that area. writing, “They chose to describe Montgomery County residents and all those who voiced a justifiable and sincere outrage over these reported crimes, as ‘Neo-Nazi sympathizers’ which only foments hate and division in the county, in order to deflect away from their failure as our elected officials.”
Trump White House tweets “Last month, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich ordered the county’s agencies not to cooperate with ICE—and protect criminals instead. Since July 25, 7 illegal aliens protected by the ‘sanctuary’ county have been arrested for rape and sexual assaults.”
Maryland’s Montgomery County Council then charged Cuccinelli with spreading false information about the criminal justice system.
Cuccinelli retaliated against the Montgomery County Council and challenged Marc Elrich, Montgomery County Council executive to a debate. tweeted, “Sanctuary County, Montgomery County, MD cannot debate the failure of its sanctuary policies on the merits (7 violent assaults, rape etc, incl child victims in ~1 month), so they resort to ad hominem attacks using Nazi implications – arguments out of bounds in civil society. If MontCo Chairman Elrich thinks the sanctuary policy they are so proud of is so good, I challenge him to a debate on the subject.”
