‘We Asked Too Much Of The Audience’: Disney Exec Offers Excuse For ‘Lightyear’ Flop, Makes No Mention Of Same-Sex Kiss

One Disney Executive reflects on the flop. “Toy Story” Spinoff “Lightyear” was for the company.

“We’ve done a lot of soul-searching about that because we all love the movie. We love the characters and the premise. I think probably what we’ve ended on in terms of what went wrong is that we asked too much of the audience,” Peter Docter is Pixar’s chief Creative Officer Submitted The Wrap

It was much more of a science fiction.”

Docter continued to describe the “Toy Story” These characters are “much broader,” saying, “I think there was a disconnect between what people wanted/expected and what we were giving to them.”

The animated film 2022 earned $226.4 million on a budget of $200 million. This means that it lost money after accounting for marketing expenses.

“It’s tough to not be a little frustrated that it even has to be a topic of discussion,” Evans also added. “That it is this kind of ‘news.’ The goal is that we can get to a point where it is the norm, and that this doesn’t have to be some uncharted waters, that eventually this is just the way it is. That representation across the board is how we make films.”

Even critics of the controversial kiss scene were critical. They said there were many plot holes in the movie and that it strayed too far away from the original. “Toy Story” The storylines are meant to be enjoyed by the audience in the same manner as the other installments. 

Disney just announced they’ll be making “Toy Story 5” These are just a few of the many additions that can be made to existing franchises.
