David Harsanyi: GOP Right To Deny Ilhan Omar a Committee Seat

Poor Ilhan Omar was denied a seat in the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“I certainly did not or was not aware that the word ‘hypnotized’ was a trope,” The congresswoman spoke to CNN’s Dana Bash about this week. “I wasn’t aware of the fact that there are tropes about Jews and money. That has been a very enlightening part of this journey.”

It’s been quite a journey. It’s merely happenstance, Omar would have you believe, that she — along with her bestie, Rashida Tlaib, a woman who gets a “calming feeling” Thinking about the Holocaust’s aftermath is what pro-Zionist Jews are exploiting “regular Americans” For “their profit,” etc. — keeps tripping into old-school Jew-baiting. What are the chances?

Omar was born in Omar, and has been living in America since her teens. Omar graduated high school in a major American town. She received a B.A. North Dakota State University, in political science. It’s likely she’s had a lot of American culture in her lifetime. I assume she has consumed American culture over all of her interactions as an academic. “fellow” As a government employee, she has never heard of a stereotype that Jews are hypnotizing nations or motivated by money. This is quite an achievement.

Omar shouldn’t have been demoted to the House Foreign Affairs Committee. She believes that the world is being brainwashed by rootless cosmopolitans. “Benjamins.” She should have lost her job for downplaying 9/11. She is not morally or ideologically ready for the job. Nancy Pelosi established a precedent in denying Kevin McCarthy the choices for the Jan.6 committee. This effectively created a show trial and stripped Paul Gosar of his committee appointments. Republicans should unseat Omar by using her standards.

After a dumb, bigoted joke about Omar was made by Democrats, Lauren Boebert introduced a resolution that would strip Lauren Boebert off all House committee assignments. “we should punish and sanction Boebert by stripping her of her committees, by rebuking her language, by doing everything that we can to send a clear and decisive message to the American public that, if the Republicans are not going to be adults and condone — condemn this, that we are going to do that.”

Democrats had the opportunity to be adults. “send a clear and decisive message” The American public was outraged by Omar’s bigotry and backed a weak resolution. It contained platitudes condemning the treatment of Alfred Dreyfus, Leo Frank, and condemning antiJapanese discrimination in World War II. But not Omar. That’s okay. These congressional resolutions are a form of performative nonsense. Every member of Congress can directly tell us what he thinks. Omar is exempted, however, from occasional tepid rebukes of fellow Jewish Democrats.

Omar’s rhetoric has become a standard in activist and academic leftist circles. Omar could easily read the Hamas Charter in the Congressional Record, and her defenders would claim that she was merely being a spokesman. “critical” Israel. The Washington Post partisans will continue to criticize her despite what she may say and how many times she lies. “inextricable from her religion.” The victim of bigotry is in fact the one who does it.

Omar is free to believe whatever she wants. Her constituents are free to continue sending her to Congress. The House majority can refuse Omar’s seats on committees. McCarthy can unilaterally disqualify Adam Schiff, the most corrupt member in Congress, or Eric Swalwell from serving on an intelligence committee. But Omar would need a full House majority vote to remove Omar. Perhaps it is a bad habit to block appointments to partisan Committees. However, unilateral disarmament is also possible.
