New York City Doesn’t Want Any More Illegal Immigrants
I’m certain Eric Adams, New York City Mayor, must have received the nickel tour of New York City at one time. He must have seen the statue at New York Harbor that has the inscription:
It’s not like the brazen Greek giant of Greek fame.
You can conquer limbs by astride, from one land to the next.
Our sea-washed sunset gates will be standing
A strong woman holding a torch. Her flame is a beacon of strength.
Is she the imprisoned lightning and what is her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows all over the globe; her warm eyes command attention
The twin cities have an air-bridged harbor.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” She cries
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearn to be free of all ties.
Your shore’s wretched trash.
These homeless should send their tempest-tosts to my attention.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
New York City is full of tired, poor and huddled people, thank you very, Adams has been hanging out the “No Vacancy” He signed and asked for a million dollars from the federal government in order to manage the ones that he has. The New York Post reports Adams is not happy with Gov. Jared Polis, D-Colo., to send illegal immigrants from his State to NYC. Sid Rosenberg, a radio host, was told by Adams
More than 30,000 asylum seekers were granted shelter. We were informed yesterday by the governor of Colorado that they plan to send migrants to New York City and Chicago. This is unfair on local governments that have to fulfill this national obligation. We’ve done our job. There’s no more room at the inn. This has really affected the quality of New York’s life, as well as our ability to provide daily long-term New Yorkers with the necessities they need during these difficult times. This needs to be addressed.
The Post notes that Adams’ press secretary has said that there are approximately 35,700 illegal immigrants in New York City, with over 24,000 of those being housed in emergency shelters and Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers.
Polis told Politico He was only helping immigrants reach their final destination, New York City. He stated that the state had been doing it for weeks. But, Colorado was also hit hard by severe weather. This led to a backlog in people who had been scheduled to evacuate. Colorado is still catching up. Politico reports that over 3500 immigrants arrived in Denver during November. 1,800 of these people needed emergency shelter every night. The situation was so dire that the emergency declaration was made and funds raised to help. Polis claimed that the state had allocated $5 million to help. Polis claimed that only a fraction of that money was used to purchase bus tickets. Polis also stated that 70% illegal immigrants arrive in Colorado and are interested in moving.
Of course, the obvious point of contention is that we have Democrat-led cities and states that either don’t want any more illegal immigrants or are sending them away — something for which Republican governors have been excoriated. But Adams’ complaints are particularly tone-deaf. Adams’ complaints are not just about wanting his own city to be affected, despite the El Paso and other border situations, but because he wants federal money for the solutions to the Leftist-backed policy. The Left has not called for the government to secure the border. It’s clear that Democrats want illegal immigrants, just not in their backyards.
