Independents Make 16-Point Shift in GOP’s Favor
Republicans
look to be winning the key voting group of
independent
voters as the
midterm
elections are just over a week away.
A new
poll
from CBS News and YouGov shows the GOP holds the advantage with independents in the generic House ballot, a massive swing from two weeks earlier.

Republicans lead Democrats among independent voters 49% to 33%, a 16-point advantage, in the poll conducted from Oct. 26-28. That large of an advantage could prove critical to GOP hopes of taking majorities in the House and the Senate.

The generic ballot lead is an 18-point swing from the same poll conducted from Oct. 12-14, which showed Democrats with a 2-point lead among independents at 40% compared to Republicans at 38%.

The new poll was conducted with 2,119 registered voters with a margin of error of 2.4 percentage points. It showed the Republicans with a narrow lead over Democrats, 47% to 45%, in the generic ballot among all groups.
The swing in the generic ballot poll comes as GOP candidates
across the country
appear to be surging with only eight days until Election Day.
