Moulton introduced H.R. 7187, which would give the president power to sell a number of American assets for humanitarian funding in Ukraine.

The United States is engaged in a proxy war with Russia through the conflict in Ukraine — and it’s a war the US has to win, says Democratic congressman Seth Moulton.

He made the comments on Fox News on Tuesday.

“At the end of the day, we’ve got to realize we’re at war. We’re not just at war to support Ukraine,” Moulton said, “but fundamentally, although somewhat through a proxy, we are at war with Russia.”

Moulton currently sits on the House Armed Services Committee and plays a key role in advancing legislation that deals with foreign conflicts. In the past, he’s been advocated for US support of the Ukrainian defense against Russia and has lent his vote towards additional financial aid to their armed forces.

Most recently, Moulton introduced H.R. 7187, which would give the president power to sell a number of American assets for humanitarian funding in Ukraine.

His comments, made during a conversation with Fox personality Brett Bair, were part of a larger interview alongside fellow committee member, congressman Mike Turner, a Republican from Ohio. The two representatives expressed an expectation that Congress would continue to support Ukraine financially and through the provision of arms.

Moulton pointed to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recent trip to Ukraine as an indicator that support from Congress would remain strong.

For Moulton, this isn’t just Ukraine’s fight. He told Bair that, concerning support for Ukraine, Congress was largely unified.

“This is a bipartisan effort in Congress…on supporting the Ukrainians and really working to not just hold off the Russians, but to crush them in Ukraine.”

“I think that will continue,” he said.
