A devastating car crash has‍ claimed the lives ⁣of eight⁢ individuals, with one of ⁣them suspected ‌to ⁢be ⁤a human smuggler.

On Wednesday, ⁤a dramatic ‍incident unfolded on ⁤a South Texas highway as the driver of a car, suspected‍ of transporting smuggled migrants, attempted to flee from the ​police. Tragically, the driver collided head-on with⁣ another⁢ vehicle, resulting in the loss ⁢of​ eight lives.

According to reports, the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. when the driver of a 2009 Honda Civic, trying to outrun Zavala County⁣ Sheriff’s Office authorities, made‌ a risky maneuver to‍ overtake​ a semi truck. Unfortunately, this ⁣led to a ⁢collision with a 2015 ⁤Chevrolet ⁢Equinox, which ⁢tragically ​caught fire.

“The driver ⁣in‌ a Honda passenger car ‌from‌ Houston suspected ⁢of‌ human smuggling was evading from Zavala (County⁢ deputies) when the ⁣driver passed an 18-wheeler⁣ in a‍ no-passing zone,” said ⁣Olivarez.

The⁢ investigation into the crash is still ongoing, and the identities of the victims have not been released as‌ authorities are prioritizing informing their ‌families first.
