A tragic incident occurred in Houston, Texas, where a 3-month-old baby lost their life after being left unattended in a scorching hot car on a day with temperatures reaching 101 degrees.
According to reports, a mother visited the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD on Tuesday, bringing her two children along. However, she only took her 4-year-old inside, leaving the infant behind in the sweltering car.
Upon her return, the mother discovered that the 3-month-old baby was not breathing. She rushed the child into the mental health facility, where nurses attempted to perform CPR.
Emergency responders from the Houston police and fire department arrived at the scene and made additional efforts to save the child’s life. Sadly, the baby was pronounced dead by doctors at a local hospital.
Houston Police Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir referred to the incident as an “avoidable” tragedy, emphasizing that leaving a child in a car, especially an infant, even for a moment, is extremely dangerous due to the rapid increase in body temperature.
“Houston gets very hot and under no circumstances you should leave a child in a car, not even for a moment,” said Bashir. “Especially an infant or a child, the body temperature goes up very quickly.”
The Harris County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. It remains unclear if any charges have been filed or how long the infant was left alone in the car.
