25 Noncitizens Voted In Alabama, Officials Find

Alabama’s Republican Secretary of state Wes Allen announced his office identified 186 noncitizens on the state’s voter rolls using the USCIS Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, saying 25 of them allegedly cast ballots illegally. The state has directed immediate removal of those registrants and is referring cases of illegal registration and voting to law enforcement; individuals flagged by SAVE were given chances to prove citizenship before being removed. Alabama adopted SAVE after signing a memorandum of agreement wiht USCIS; the system was upgraded under the Trump administration to allow citizenship and death-status checks, and by September tens of millions of records nationally had been screened. The article notes other states’ efforts – ohio purged inactive voters, and Louisiana found 79 noncitizen votes dating back decades – and cites DHS data that only 26 states were using or arranging to use SAVE as of November. The piece frames SAVE use as an election-integrity measure and criticizes Democratic-led states for not using the tool, and it is indeed written by Breccan F. Thies, White House correspondent for The Federalist.

Alabama’s Republican Secretary of State Wes Allen announced Tuesday that his office found 186 noncitizens who were registered to vote, 25 of whom had allegedly cast ballots illegally.

Allen’s office used the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program to cross-reference voter rolls in his state with federal records. SAVE is a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) tool designed for federal, state, and local governments so they can ensure illegals and other noncitizens are not leeching public benefits from American taxpayers. Allen has directed the “immediate removal” of all 186 noncitizens from the rolls.

“Our elections must be decided by American citizens and only American citizens,” Allen said in a press release. “While liberal organizations and media outlets claim noncitizen voting is not a problem, my office has proven otherwise. Under my watch, illegal registration and illegal voting by noncitizens will not be tolerated in Alabama. My office will continue to identify these violations, refer them to law enforcement, and ensure the full force of the law is applied.”

Alabama started using the SAVE system after entering a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with USCIS to ensure the integrity of voter rolls. The Trump administration upgraded the system in August so that it could be used to verify citizenship and check if voters had passed away. As of September, tens of millions of voters across the country had been checked using the system, but essentially only Republican-led states that actually care about election integrity had made use of the tool.

Ohio decided to remove thousands of inactive voters, and Louisiana found that 79 noncitizens had voted in at least one election, going all the way back to the 1980s.

Allen said Alabama would use the SAVE program to check all current registered voters, as well as screen all future voters looking to register, “ensuring that only eligible United States citizens are registered to vote in Alabama.”

All persons on the voter rolls flagged by SAVE were given the opportunity to provide proof of citizenship, and local boards of registrars removed those who failed to do so. Allen’s office is also referring the illegal voting and registrations to all levels of law enforcement in order for them to take action.

As of November, only 26 states were either using SAVE to verify their voter rolls or in the process of establishing an MOA to do so, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). That means that the states with some of the largest voter (and illegal alien) populations, like California, New York, and Illinois, are still allowing fraud to take place in their states, disfranchising American citizens.

If states like Alabama and Louisiana can find noncitizens voting in American elections, it is highly likely that those left-wing states — which have been trying to import as many foreigners as possible — will see an enormous number of noncitizen voters.
