Two Nigerian Men Extradited to the US for Alleged Sextortion Crimes
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—In a shocking turn of events, two Nigerian men have been extradited to the United States after being indicted for their involvement in sexually extorting teenage boys and young men across Michigan and the country. This disturbing case has captured the attention of the nation, shedding light on the dark world of sextortion.
Samuel Ogoshi, 22, and Samson Ogoshi, 20, hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, are accused of running an international sextortion ring. Their modus operandi involved posing as a woman, leading unsuspecting victims into compromising situations. Tragically, their actions resulted in the death of 17-year-old Jordan DeMay from Marquette, Michigan, who took his own life on March 25, 2022.
The charges against the two men are grave. They each face counts of conspiracy to sexually exploit minors, distribute child pornography, and commit stalking through the internet. Additionally, Mr. Samuel Ogoshi faces charges of sexual exploitation of a minor resulting in death and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor resulting in death. These indictments were handed down in May.
Sexual extortion, commonly known as sextortion, is a heinous crime that preys on vulnerable individuals. The perpetrators manipulate their victims into sharing explicit photos online and then use these images as leverage, threatening to expose them unless the victims comply with their demands for money or engage in sexual acts.
“Sextortion is a horrible crime,” emphasized U.S. Attorney Mark Totten in a news release. “To those who commit these crimes: we will pursue you around the world. And to those who are victims: please know we stand ready to help you.”
As of now, the exact number of victims remains undisclosed.
The news release did not provide any information regarding the relationship between the Ogoshi brothers.
No attorneys representing the Ogoshis have been listed in the online court records.
