1-Year-Old Fatally Left in Hot Day Care Van, Driver Held
Tragic Incident: 1-Year-Old Girl Dies in Hot Van at Day Care Center
In a heartbreaking incident, a 1-year-old girl tragically lost her life after being left inside a day care center‘s van in Omaha, Nebraska. The driver of the van has been arrested, according to the local police.
The distressing discovery was made when officers and medics responded to a call at Kidz of the Future Childcare on Monday afternoon. They found an unresponsive baby inside the van, as temperatures soared into the upper 90s (mid-30s Celsius) during a relentless heat wave.
The child, identified as Ra’Miyah Worthington, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead. Shockingly, her body temperature was recorded at a staggering 109°F (42.8°C). Understandably, her parents are questioning why the day care center failed to notice her absence.

The 62-year-old van driver, Ryan Williams, from Omaha, has been charged with a felony count of child negligence resulting in death. If convicted, he could face up to four years in prison. Williams claimed that he was distracted by a young boy who refused to exit the van during unloading, leading to him mistakenly leaving the girl inside. He admitted to not conducting the usual sweep of the vehicle before closing it, as another staff member came to assist with the boy.
A bond hearing for Williams is scheduled for Wednesday morning. At present, there is no attorney listed in online court records who could provide a comment on his behalf. Furthermore, his phone listing has been disconnected.
“He was responsible for getting those kids inside,” emphasized Douglas County Chief Deputy Attorney Brenda Beadle. “That little girl was in that van between five and six hours with the temperature outside reaching nearly 100 degrees.”
