Explosion in Plum, Pennsylvania Leaves One Dead and Others Missing
In a devastating incident that shook the borough of Plum, Pennsylvania, a house explosion claimed the life of one person, left another critically injured, and left several individuals unaccounted for. The explosion, which occurred on Saturday morning at around 10:30 a.m., destroyed three structures and caused significant damage to at least a dozen others.
According to officials from Allegheny County, three individuals were rushed to hospitals following the blast. As the situation unfolded, it was revealed that one person was in critical condition, while the other two were listed as stable. Additionally, more than 20 firefighters had to be evaluated for heat exhaustion due to their efforts to combat the flames.
Emergency responders reported that people were trapped under debris as one house exploded and two others were engulfed in flames. A total of 18 fire departments, with assistance from water tankers from Allegheny and Westmoreland counties, worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire.

Authorities at the scene were unable to provide an exact count of the missing individuals as they were uncertain about who was present in the affected houses at the time of the explosion. The identity of the deceased person will be released by the county medical examiner’s office.
An investigation into the cause of the explosion is currently underway. Plum and county law enforcement, along with the county fire marshal’s office, are leading the investigation. The state public utilities commission and local utilities were also present at the scene.
Witnesses shared their harrowing experiences during the incident. George Emanuele, who lived nearby, recounted how he and a neighbor found a man in the backyard before the fire escalated. They managed to drag him away from the danger zone. Another resident, Rafal Kolankowski, described how the explosion shattered the windows of his house, causing him and his wife to be thrown to the ground. He later learned that a woman had been trapped upstairs, while a man remained in the basement.
“It’s just tragic, I mean, it looks like a war zone—it looks like a bomb hit our neighborhood and it’s just unfortunate,” Kolankowski expressed. “I was just with some of the neighbors yesterday, right, and now this happens.”
Jeremy Rogers, who lived two doors down, also shared his shock and disbelief at the sudden turn of events.
